ImpactOS began as AskKauko, founded in 2015 with one clear purpose: to make sustainability easier to understand and act on.
AskKauko specialised in sustainability visualisation, transforming dense, static ESG content into engaging visual formats. Why? Because 91% of people prefer visual content, yet most sustainability reporting remains long, text-heavy, and underused. As a result, companies miss out on many of the real business benefits that come from being recognised as a sustainable brand.
AskKauko’s early solutions helped companies:
But one core challenge kept coming up: the data simply didn’t exist.
Time and again, the visualisation process got stuck because companies didn’t have the emissions or ESG data needed to fuel it. The team found themselves spending far more time trying to collect data than communicating it.
This realisation became a turning point.
In 2022, AskKauko pivoted fully to developing a new kind of platform: one focused not on showcasing sustainability, but on making it measurable, actionable, and scalable.
That platform became ImpactOS.
In 2024, the platform was rebranded under the ImpactOS name with a new visual identity and a sharpened mission: The Black Swan Mission.
A black swan is a rare, disruptive event whose significance is only clear in hindsight. Sustainability, once a survival imperative, has become an empty buzzword.
The Black Swan Mission brings these ideas together. It’s a call to shift sustainability from a vague narrative to a competitive, measurable, and actionable advantage, for everyone. It’s a commitment to:
When you can see where you are, you can aim higher. When you know what your supply chain is doing, you can lead better. With the right tools, sustainability becomes strategy, and companies become catalysts for real transformation.
ImpactOS is the tool. This is the mission. Now it’s yours to join.
Fortum, through its Valkea Growth Club, is a key investor in ImpactOS. With their support, we are scaling our platform to help companies of all sizes transform ESG data from a compliance burden into a competitive advantage. Together, we are building the infrastructure for smarter, more sustainable supply chains.
ImpactOS is a contributor to the EBITDA project, part of Beyond Circularity, Valmet’s R&D ecosystem led by Tampere University. We join partners like Kemira, Lassila & Tikanoja, and Solita in exploring how value chain sustainability data can drive environmental performance and strategic business impact. Our role is to help make that data visible, actionable, and aligned with real-world decision-making.
We are a member of Food Data Finland, coordinated by GS1. This national network promotes digital food data standards and collaboration across the food value chain. Our participation supports smarter traceability, sustainability, and transparency through better data infrastructure.
